Arriving by air? The entrance
to McCarran International Airport is at the intersection
of the Tropicana Avenue and Paradise Road or Swenson
Street, just east of the southern end of The Strip,
south of downtown Las Vegas. Interstate 15 is the major north-south
artery through Las Vegas which parallels the mega-congested Las
Vegas Boulevard Strip. Within a mile of the airport
entrance at Las Vegas Boulevard there is access to Interstate
15 via Tropicana Avenue to the north or from the limited access
Interstate 215 (Las Vegas Beltway) to the south just
beyond the runway tunnel, Interstate 15 is located two miles
west. Depending on hotel location, visitors may want to use the
Interstate to access accommodations more quickly. The hotels located
along the Strip begin just outside the airport entrance and most
are north of the airport along or on adjacent streets to South
Las Vegas Boulevard which can get very congested. For visitors
who have just flown in and are renting a car, may want to avoid
their drive down the strip until they are better rested.
From the airport, the more convenient Paradise Road parallels
the Strip and is another choice for getting to south strip hotels.
The downtown area, Glitter Gulch lies about 7
miles north of the airport, access is more convenient via Interstate
15 north. Car rentals and taxis are readily available at the
airport.
The major northeast to southwest highway route through Las Vegas
is Interstate 15, which connects with Salt Lake City,
400 miles to the north and Los Angeles 225 miles to the south. Another
artery is the northwest to southeast U.S. 95 that intersects
with Interstate -15 / Interstate - 515 northwest of
Glitter Gulch in the heart of Las Vegas city limits. Interstate
- 515 parallels and reconnects to U.S. 95 / 93 on the
southeastern side of the city, U.S. 95 south offers convenient
access south to Henderson, Boulder City and Laughlin, Nevada.
Lake Mead and Hoover Dam is located about 20 miles
east of the city via U.S. 95 and 93, the Grand Canyon
National Park is 100 to 150 miles east. Phoenix, Arizona
is situated 250 miles to the southeast. Death Valley is located
about 75 miles west northwest of the city via U.S. 95 north
or SR 160 west. Barstow and Los Angeles are
located 150 to 225 miles respectively to the southwest via Interstate
15. Interstate 215, a.k.a. the Las Vegas Beltway
is a connector with Interstate 515 on the southeast side
of Las Vegas running between Interstates 15 and 515.
The Interstate 215 Beltway will eventually encircle
much of Las Vegas, but is currently under construction in areas
west of The Strip.
